Asbestos is a known human carcinogen. People can inhale asbestos fibers into the lungs. From there, they can travel to the alveoli (small sacs at the very end of the airways) and become lodged. These fibers damage the lungs, creating scar tissue, which can lead to a condition known as asbestosis.
A significant number of injuries occur among employees, customers and visitors in parking lots and other exterior areas of facility. It seems that every business has at least one serious injury or workers' compensation claim a year related to falls in parking lots or on other exterior grounds.
Studies show that most teens are often unaware of their rights as workers, and because they don't have the experience of older workers, they don't easily recognize workplace dangers. A combination of youthful energy and a reluctance to ask questions also increases the chances of an injury at the workplace.
